Marquita Willis, a California-born artist now residing in Bluffton, South Carolina, earned her Fine Art degree from California State University, Los Angeles. Her vibrant and captivating artwork reflects her life experiences, delving into themes of family, love, heartbreak, happiness, and new beginnings. Using color as her expressive medium, Marquita gains insight into the complexities of life and the world. Inspired by the Gullah culture since her move to the east coast, her oil paintings now prominently showcase the vibrancy and beauty of South Carolina’s landscapes. Marquita has exhibited her work in numerous galleries across the southern and eastern United States, from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Hilton Head Island and Beaufort, South Carolina. Throughout her career, she has contributed illustrations to a children’s book, “I SAW IT COMING,” and received recognition from esteemed artists like James Denmark and Dianne Britton Dunham, earning acclaim from art enthusiasts across the nation.
